Animal
Rights & Humane Organizations
American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals - The ASPCA was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. The Society was formed to alleviate the injustices animals faced then, and we continue to battle cruelty today. Whether it’s saving a pet who has been accidentally poisoned, fighting to pass humane laws, rescuing animals from abuse or sharing resources with shelters across the country, we work toward the day in which no animal will live in pain or fear.
Animal
Welfare Institute (AWI) Since its founding in 1951 the Animal Welfare
Institute (AWI) has sought to reduce the sum total of pain and fear inflicted
on animals by people. In the organization’s early years our particular
emphasis was on the desperate needs of animals used for experimentation. In
the decades that followed we expanded the scope of our work to address many
other areas of animal suffering.
The Humane Society of the United States - The mission of The HSUS is to create a humane and sustainable world for all animals—a world that will also benefit people. We seek to forge a lasting and comprehensive change in human consciousness of and behavior toward all animals in order to prevent animal cruelty, exploitation, and neglect, and to protect wild habitats and the entire community of life.
In Defense of Animals is an international animal
protection organization dedicated to ending the exploitation and abuse of
animals
by raising the status of animals beyond that of mere property, and by defending
their rights, welfare and habitat. IDA’s efforts include educational
events, cruelty investigations, boycotts, grassroots activism, and hands-on
rescue through
our sanctuaries in Mississippi and Cameroon, Africa.
The National Humane Education Society provides humane education, rescue and relief assistance for animals, as well as screened adoption services. Through the Humane Education Department, we provide educational presentations to all ages and information services to members as well as to the general public.
Society for Animal Protective Legislation - the first non-profit organization formed in the United States specifically dedicated to the passage and promotion of federal, international and local legislation to ensure and protect animal welfare.
United Animal Nations (UAN) focuses on bringing animals out of crisis and strengthening the bond between people and animals through a variety of programs, including emergency sheltering, disaster relief services, financial assistance and education.
